Jakob Van den Broucke en Projectvierennegentig nodigen u graag uit voor de tweedaagse presentatie SCHIZO SYNTAX. Vertrekkende vanuit de vraag ‘What if we elaborate some hot trains of thought?’ weerspiegeld deze tentoonstelling de ideeën, concepten en beelden die hij ontwikkelde tijdens deze residentie. Juan Pablo Plazas zal een interventie toevoegen aan deze ervaring.

Jakob heeft een achtergrond in sociologie, ontwikkelingsstudies en bibliotheekwetenschappen. Onderweg naar ideeën raakte hij betrokken bij de uitwerking van een web van verdinglijkbare entiteiten die vragen naar het nieuwe, het nu en het hoe onderzoeken en pogen te beantwoorden. Jakob verwerkt op dagelijkse basis woorden, beelden, papier en organisch afval. Terugkerende methoden daarbij zijn omkeren, stapelen, knippen, weglaten, associatief en schematisch denken en samenwerken, wat wordt geëxternaliseerd in de vorm van onderwerpen, objecten, A4s, foto’s, publicaties, acties, installaties en teksten. Samen met Kasper Demeulemeester ontwikkelt hij sinds 2020 Tijdelijk Informatie Centrum als een dynamische en synergetische denkruimte waarin samenwerking, accumulatie van kennis en esthetische productie kunnen samenvallen.

Juan Pablo Plazas is een Colombiaanse antropoloog en kunstenaar die woont en werkt in Brussel. Hij is gefascineerd door de mogelijkheid van mensen en gemeenschappen om de wereld op verschillende manieren te interpreteren. In zijn praktijk vertrekt hij van alledaagse objecten en ruwe materialen die uitzonderlijke materiële of formele eigenschappen bezitten. Met verwondering en een gevoel voor humor haalt hij deze items uit hun context en transformeert ze tot beeldhouwwerken of geeft hij ze een rol in een performance. Door deze handeling doorbreekt hij het ‘perfectly normal’ en nodigt hij ons uit om objecten te begrijpen als geanimeerde, levende materie.

Jakob Van den Broucke and Projectvierennegentig are happy to invite you to the two-day presentation SCHIZO SYNTAX. Stemming from the question ‘What if we elaborate some hot trains of thought?’, this exhibition reflects the ideas, concepts, and images he developed during this residency. Juan Pablo Plazas will contribute to this experience with an intervention.

Jakob has an educational background in sociology, development studies and librarianship. On his way 2 ideas he gradually got involved in the elaboration of a web of reifiable entities inquiring and realising the new, the now and the how question. Jakob processes words, images, paper and organic waste on a daily basis. Recurring methods are inversion, piling, cutting, omitting, associative and diagrammatic thinking and collaborative efforts, which are externalised in the form of subjects, objects, A4s, photographs, publications, actions, installations and texts. Since 2020, he has been developing Temporary Information Center together with Kasper Demeulemeester, a dynamic and synergistic thinking space and organisational formula in which collaboration, accumulation of knowledge and aesthetic production can coincide.

Juan Pablo Plazas is a Colombian anthropologist and artist living and working in Brussels. He is fascinated by the ability of people and communities to interpret the world in different ways. In his practice, he departs from everyday objects and raw materials that possess exceptional material or formal properties. With astonishment and a sense of humour, he removes these items from their ordinary context and transforms them into sculptures or assigns them roles in a performance. Through this act, Plazas breaks through the ‘perfectly normal’ and invites us to understand objects as animated, living matter.
