Kennismaken met het werk van de kunstenaar Niels Poiz via een project begeleid door de kunstenaar zelf.

Niels Poiz (°1991) focust zich als beeldend kunstenaar op de taal, vertelling en communicatie. Hij benadert onder meer de huidige sociaal-politieke, culturele, identiteits- en genderkwesties. Zijn artistiek onderzoek vertaalt zich beeldend in posters, video’s, performances, sculpturen of publicaties. Hij haalt zijn inspiratie voornamelijk uit de populaire cultuur (music video’s, songteksten, quotes, media beelden, …) en presenteert deze in een nieuw context. Het werk wordt gebundeld in zowel scripts, verhalen als korte tekstfragmenten. Elke tekst fungeert als een mentale ruimte die je afzonderlijk of als geheel kan lezen. De manier waarop de tekst geplaatst wordt binnen het werk (en de fysieke ruimte) krijgt een nieuwe context en beïnvloedt daardoor de interpretatie. “Zo krijgen oneliners een andere vorm en typografie dan een theatertekst. Het maakt niet uit of je de tekst of ruimte eerst ervaart, ze zijn verbonden met elkaar.”
Deze workshop speelt in op de tentoonstelling “SORRY THE IMAGE YOU HAVE ORDERED IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK. * If you feel this is a mistake please contact customer service.” die gecreëerd werd in opdracht van Projectvierennegentig.
Door in aanraking te komen met de tentoonstelling en de schrijfmethodiek écriture automatique, worden de jongeren uitgenodigd Poiz zijn werk te ervaren. Vanuit de methodologie van de kunstenaar leren we ook op nieuwe manieren beelden te creëren.

Niels Poiz (°1991) is a visual artist, in his work he focuses on themes of language, narration and communication. He approaches current socio-political, cultural, identity and gender issues. His artistic research translates itself visually into posters, videos, performances, sculptures and publications. He mainly draws inspiration from popular culture (music videos, lyrics, quotes, media images,…) which he re-contextualizes. The work is then bundled in scripts, stories and short text fragments. Each text acts as a mental space that you can read individually or as a whole. The way in which the text is placed within the work (and the physical space) is given a new context and therefore influences the interpretation. “In this way, one-liners take on a different form and typography than a theater text. It doesn’t matter whether you experience the text or space first, they are connected to each other.”
The workshop is connected to the exhibition “SORRY THE IMAGE YOU HAVE ORDERED IS CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK. * If you feel this is a mistake please contact customer service.” which was created in-situ for Projectvierennegentig. The students are invited to familiarize themselves with the exhibition and the writing methodology ‘écriture automatique’. Thus experiencing Poiz’s work firsthand, learning new ways to create images.
